Global address not updating under outlook cached mode
In Cached Exchange Mode, Outlook 2003 uses the offline address book when it resolves ambiguous names, even when connected to the server.
To configure Outlook to use the online global address list, perform the following procedures.
In the Information to download section, select Full Details and in the Address Book section, choose \Global Address List. **NOTE** Please read this section carefully, or your update will not work!!
Step 3: The new version of the GAL will now be downloaded.
In order to reflect any changes or updates made to the Global Address List, you can force Outlook to download a new copy of the GAL.

This reduces network traffic and improves performance.
If you are in Cached Exchange Mode and your connection status is Disconnected, Trying to Connect, or Offline, you can see only the information that is in the offline address book.Quite often all Administrators, even Exchange Administrators simply refer to the users they see in the Address section of Outlook casually as the GAL for ease of reference, but really more often than not, you are looking at the OAB.However sometimes in large complex organisations we have a situation where a new joiner joins and their colleagues want to email them immediately, but they don’t appear in Outlook for them so they call the Helpdesk “Why isn’t Joe Bloggs in the GAL??If Outlook is left running constantly in Cached Exchange Mode, it automatically updates the offline address book about one time per day depending on updates on the computer that is running Exchange. The offline address book size can vary from several megabytes to hundreds of megabytes in uncompressed form.
